The Challenge

BC Hydro was looking to design and implement a new home on their EV website, electricvehicles.bchydro.com, for information about their fast-charging network. They also wanted to provide an improved user experience that includes an intuitive user interface, a clean look and feel, and stronger consistency with other relevant touch-points in the user journey. Our challenge was to create a thoughtful design with an intuitive navigation, while reducing content repetition and redundancy. The goal: to create a clear and straightforward path for users to find the information they are looking for.

The Solution

Content is a trending topic among crown corporations and governments across North America—and providing users with a positive online experience often starts with content. Our team leveraged our experience in website redesign projects—including performing content audits, creating sitemaps, and determining user journeys—while taking an agile approach to this content-related project. We worked in a highly collaborative manner with BC Hydro's team to gain a deeper understanding of their specialized content to ensure that it was created and organized with a UX-first approach. We conducted an in-depth review of the current fast charging content, branding, and usage statistics to determine user journeys and provide related recommendations to BC Hydro.

The Results

The result is a new section on the BC Hydro EV website that is targeted specifically at EV drivers who use fast chargers. It answers common questions and provides drivers with valuable and relevant information. Users are able to efficiently and effectively find the information they are looking for through the use of a new user interface and intuitive navigation.

In addition, by moving the fast charger-related content to the main site, there is now a clear consistency with BC Hydro's branding, which results in less confusion for users by reducing redundancy. Lastly, through training and an updated content governance plan, the BC Hydro team can also manage this new website section internally in an more efficient manner.
