Gaining Focus in Digital Marketing
A Double-Edged Sword of Challenges and Opportunities
As part of my job I’m increasingly active across many online communication platforms that are relevant and useful to my needs. These platforms include Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, blogs, interest groups, news sites, newsletters, and various subscriptions. The options are plentiful and resourceful. This is the benefit of living in a technologically advanced society. But that poses a very real question that many individuals and all businesses must face; where and how do we focus our online attention?
There’s no doubting anymore the influence and reach of digital marketing.
According to a recent article in Adage, Proctor & Gamble Chairman-CEO Bob McDonald said he expects to contain P&G costs by focusing more on digital media, where the sheer number of options and availability of largely free distribution drives down expenses.
‘The sheer number of options and availability’ is both an opportunity and a challenge that your business must address. But where do you start? Where do you focus your attention? How do you cover The Internet?
Each and every business must appreciate the attention that digital media deserves but also understand that the best practice for digital marketing will be different because every individual and business is unique.
I know that we can all identify with this challenge and opportunity, and while Upanup does all sorts of planning around focused web marketing, I also know that each situation warrants a different plan.
So, rather than provide you with a list of the top ten ways to focus your attention, I’m just going to clarify that gaining focus is an issue that requires your attention. I don’t care how you do it – whether it is through a third-party consultant or through your own online marketing plan, just make sure you take the time to get focused.
