2017: A Year in Review

A Year in Review

As 2017 comes to a close, we'd like to take a moment to reflect on what a great year we’ve been so fortunate to have over the past 12 months:

On the Upanup

2017 marks Upanup's fifth year in business, a momentous milestone for the company that brought many exciting new changes.

Most importantly, we opened Upanup YYC, our sister office in Calgary, AB, to be closer to our Alberta clientele and to create a presence in the Prairie region. With that, we hired three new employees to join Marco (our once lone, Calgary contractor) and to start building a strong foundation for Upanup YYC.

Our Victoria team also grew with five new hires, including two new designers, expanding the entire Upanup team from 12 to 20 employees and creating a new organizational structure within the company.

2017 brought us an abundance of great new clients with exciting new projects. From full website development and design to brand identity design, our clients have given us so many opportunities to expand and develop our skills.

This year, we launched a total of 45 websites, using both the Drupal and WordPress platforms.

Some of these sites include:

investsurrey.ca viccruise.ca
aerialfirefighter.vikingair.com bcfunerals.com
gulfpine.com sd61.bc.ca
okotokstourism.ca kamloops.ca
quesnel.ca centralsaanich.ca
phpschools.ca + individual school sites deltasd.bc.ca + individual school sites
inplayoil.com firmmanagement.com

In addition to building these sites, we created a number of custom developed solutions, like custom directories and business enhancement tools, to help our clients create intuitive online experiences for their users.

This year, our team also attended a number of professional development conferences and seminars, including the Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit and the MISA BC Annual Conference, to expand our skill set and learn new tips and trends to help carry our clients into the future.

2017 also brought international recognition for a few of our clients’ new websites that we had the pleasure of creating.

In total, we were awarded nine international web and design awards:

•    Vega Award: Centauri (aka Silver)—Invest Surrey
•    Davey Award: Gold—City of Quesnel
•    W3 Award: Silver—Victoria Cruise
•    Marcom Award: Gold—Greater Victoria School District
•    dotCOMM Award: Platinum—Okotoks Tourism
•    Communicator Award: Gold—Indigenous Business and Investment Council
•    Communicator Award: Silver—City of Kelowna
•    Communicator Award: Silver—Victoria Cruise
•    AVA Award: Gold—Kelowna Airport

While we don’t design and develop websites to win awards, it’s nice to get recognition for the hard work our team dedicates to creating superior custom solutions for our clients. We're grateful to have been included on these projects and to have had the opportunity to create these award-winning projects with our clients. Great work to everyone involved!

Onward and Upward

2017 has given us a lot to be thankful for. We've grown our team, we've expanded our client base, and we've developed new skills and resources to enhance our services for the future.

And while it has been an exciting year for Upanup, we couldn't have made it without the ongoing support of our valued clients, our talented team, and our family and friends. Thank you for your continued patronage, your dedication, and your endless encouragement. Together we are Upanup.

Here's to a great 2018.
