Creating Customized, Integrated Solutions for VictoriaCruise.ca

We’re happy to announce Victoriacruise.ca has officially set sail!

Victoriacruise.ca is the primary host of the cruise ship schedule for Victoria B.C.'s Ogden Point Terminal, the busiest cruise ship port-of-call in Canada. As the first digital point of contact for visitors arriving by ship, it was essential Victoriacruise.ca keep information up-to-date and be as user-friendly as possible.

By creating custom integration with MailChimp and the Western Stevedoring schedule database, Ogden Point ship schedules can now be seamlessly updated and added to the Victoria Cruise website, and emailed to the appropriate mailing list members, with the click of a button. Allowing those operating out of the Ogden Point docks to seamlessly coordinate their schedules and provide interested parties with up-to-date information.

VictoriaCruise.ca is just another example of how Upanup combines custom design and development, with intuitive site navigation and functional designs to create effective and engaging experiences for users.

Upanup Wins Gold for New Kelowna Airport Site

2017 has got off to a great start. Along with launching two major websites, hiring two new employees, and working on several exciting new projects, we’ve also been recognized for another AVA Digital Award, making it an even eight AVA award total for Upanup.

This year, ylw.kelowna.ca has been honoured with a gold AVA award for exceeding the high standards of the industry norm in website design. This marks the second award win for the newly launched website, which was honoured with an Arcturus award from the Vega Digital Awards in late 2016.

The AVA Digital Awards honour, “the evolving ways and means that we engage our audiences through the creative convergence of digital arts, technology and information,” and we’re proud to have produced an informational site that does just that. By using effective, clear designs, with intuitive technologies that allow for integration between multiple sites and software, we’ve created a reliable resource for Kelowna airport passengers and tenants alike.

Upanup wins 11 website design awards in 2016

Upanup is pleased to report another year of growth and production success in 2016, meaning we need to make room on our award wall to highlight more digital masterpieces. For its size, Upanup is a top award-winning digital agency in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest.

In 2016 we continued our growth, adding some great clients and talent to our team, and we picked up another 11 international awards. The awards come from various competitions through the year - W3 Awards, Davey Awards, Marcom Awards, AVA Awards and Communicator Awards. Since 2012, Upanup’s digital design and development work has now garnered 44 international awards, the most of any digital or marketing agency based in Victoria.

Updating a Website Design While Keeping the Same Backend

In 2012, we reached out to Victoria-based EcoSafe Natural Products with an opportunity for a new website. EcoSafe specializes in formulation chemistry, using natural ingredients to create alternatives to traditional pesticides, fertilizers and cosmetics. Founded and owned by Rod Bradbury, his expertise put EcoSafe on the cutting-edge of chemical formulation, and they needed a new website to match.

This new site took EcoSafe’s established brand and incorporated it throughout the site, using a lighter shade of green. The navigation and sitemap were enhanced, taking UX best practices into account to create a more user-friendly experience. Calls-to-action with unique landing pages were added to help segment EcoSafe’s audience and provide a detailed explanation of the services offered. Responsive design techniques were incorporated as well, to ensure the new site was optimized for viewing across all devices, including smartphones, tablets and large screens. This new site made an immediate impact, bringing EcoSafe’s online image up-to-speed.

Customizing the User Experience for North Vancouver Recreation & Culture, Complete with CLASS Integration

We've been working alongside the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission (NVRC) for the past year, and we are pleased to announce the launch of the new NVRC website, complete with a refreshed visual brand. We’re proud to have been the strategists, designers and developers for this rewarding project.

A User-Centric Approach

Creating a more user-centric experience was core to the creation of their new website. Where the old site had a top menu with a dropdown for every program, we've simplified and streamlined the program searching process. Our "find a program" menu allows users to select the programs they want and the facilities they're interested in and receive a customized program list.  And it was here we saw another opportunity to turn a good user experience into a great user experience.

The World (Wide Web) of Wood

Hardwoods Inc. is a publicly-traded company, with over 500 employees, 30 distribution centres across Canada and the United States and five decades of experience. Hardwoods came to Upanup needing a new website that showcased their quality products and was reflective of the company's position as a recognized premier wholesale distributor of wood products.

By emphasizing high-quality images throughout the site, we've allowed the products speak for themselves. From the moment you hit the homepage, you're immediately treated to high-quality, full-width images of Hardwoods products in action. Each internal page is highlighted by a large banner image, showcasing both raw products and completed projects. The site treats visitors to a user experience that allows them to discover an exceptional world of wood - a phrase that shows up on the homepage banner.

A Trip to the Bug Zoo

We have a bit of a tradition here at Upanup: on the first Monday of each month, we get the whole office together for an afternoon outing. In the past we've played pool at Peacock Billiards, been taught how to make glass beads and even learned how to play Aussie Rules football.

This month, we were treated to a tour of the Victoria Bug Zoo. We all learned a little bit about our insect neighbours and a few lucky employees even got to hold some of the friendlier bugs.

We're already looking forward to next month's outing!

Viking and Vernon Bring Home Platinum, Gold AVA Awards

Upanup is proud to announce that the AVA award winners are in, and we’ve been honoured once again! This year, Vikingair.com has received a platinum, and Vernon.ca has received a gold. This now makes two platinum and four gold AVA awards total for Upanup. Who needs the Grammys?

The AVA Awards “[recognize] excellence by creative professionals responsible for the planning, concept, direction, design and production of digital communication” and we’re proud to have been recognized once again for our work. These awards are a testament to the close relationships we build with our clients, helping their visions and ideas become reality.

Upanup Uses Drupal Superpowers for the Good of Vernon

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new website for the City of Vernon.

Working alongside the City of Vernon, we’ve ensured that this new site delivers a wide variety of information in an easily accessible manner. User experience was a priority, and through features like the handy “I Want To” menu, the interactive maps and prominent navigation menus we’ve made sure that residents, tourists, visitors and business investors can all find the information they need with ease.

Upanup is on the Move

With a full house that is about to get fuller, Upanup is making the move to larger digs in November. Located in downtown Victoria, the new space will even better support our team’s by foot, bike and transit commutes along with the ability to easily attend industry and community happenings.

As with any house-hunting expedition, the search to find Upanup’s new home wasn’t easy. With a long wish list that included outdoor space, creative spaces and central location – along with a need to personify our core values, the hunt took most of the summer; but was well worth it. With high ceilings, a fantastic outdoor space and incredible light (from all sides) the new space supports individual and communal workspaces for both left and right side brain activities.

The new location is under renovation and move logistics are being worked out; we will share the details as they are determined.

We look forward to sharing our new space with you!
